Volunteer / Paid - Support Barista

Join our small social enterprise supporting adults with Down syndrome to run our cafe & shop in Headingley. 

Due to the nature of our shop lease & the aim to run an equitable project for everyone these roles are self-employed, paid at National Living Wage and are on a 2 month rolling contract. 

We are looking for a number of new team members who have a passion to enable & include people with Down syndrome in a working environment, a level 2 or 3 food safety qualification (or the willingness to undertake this training online within 6 weeks of joining) and experience of working in a cafe with an espresso/barista coffee machine.

The roles will be working 2 -3 days per week (Thursday to Sunday) including one Saturday or Sunday shift per week. 


Sunshine and Smiles 
Administrator & Finance Support

Join our core Sunshine & Smiles team supporting our Service Manager with Administration & Finance functions. 

This role will be on an initial 6 month contract, pay is £9.50 per hour and will be approximately 8 hours per week to be worked flexibly (some home working may be possible) 

We are looking for someone with a high level of IT literacy including experience of using Excel, Word & Publisher or comparable programmes, knowledge of an online accounting programme such as Xero or Quickbooks would also be an advantage.

Duties will include inputting confidential data on our Charitylog database, maintaining finance spreadsheets, creating & dealing with invoices to be paid, creating resources for groups & activities, dealing with banking and working closely with our Service Manager on a weekly basis to undertake other administration or finance functions.

About Sunshine & Smiles

Sunshine & Smiles is a registered charity that provides a support network in Leeds for children and young people who have Down syndrome and their families.

We set up in 2011 as a small group offering support in the city and became an official charity in 2013. We are the only specific support network in Leeds and fulfil a vital role in the community.

The Leeds Down Syndrome Support Network is parent led and overseen by a team of four trustees.

We aim to improve the lives and opportunities for children and young people with Down syndrome.

We offer speech and language therapy, regular groups and activities, individual support and advocacy for families, as well as raising awareness and challenging preconceptions in the wider community.

We are able to achieve this by establishing links with hospitals, health and education professionals and connecting with other related charities.
