Understanding SEND Mediation

If you would like a clearer understanding of SEND mediation and Disagreement Resolution Services (DRS) without jargon or pressure, join the Leeds Parent Carer Forum for a free, informal online session delivered by Collis Mediation Limited, the commissioned SEND Mediation and Disagreement Resolution Provider.

  • Thursday, 19th March
  • 10.00am to 12.00pm
  • Online session

This session is designed for parent carers and will be conversational, supportive and interactive.  There will be clear explanations and time for questions.

What the session will cover:

  • What SEND mediation and DRS are (and what they are not)
  • How commissioned SEND mediation works in practice
  • Mediation as a process, not just a single meeting
  • The importance of pre‑mediation preparation and evidence gathering
  • How families are supported with a dedicated case manager
  • What to expect from a well‑structured, psychologically safe mediation session
  • How mediation can help address power imbalances and support solution‑focused discussions

This session is suitable whether you are:

  • New to SEND mediation
  • Currently in disagreement with your local authority
  • Considering an appeal
  • Simply want to better understand your options

The session will be led by Nicola Cleaver, Strategic Lead and Head of Mediator Training & Development at Collis Mediation Limited, who brings extensive experience in SEND mediation alongside lived experience as a parent carer.

Ticket holders will be sent a Zoom link shortly before the session.
