We have just a few weeks left as part of this year’s Co-Op Local Community Fund.
If you regularly shop at the Co-Op and haven’t yet chosen Sunshine & Smiles as your charity to support through your membership card - you can still do so!
You can find out all about the Co-op Local Community Fund and how to use it to support Sunshine & Smiles here: https://membership.coop.co.uk/causes/76362 (you can also find the link in our bio @sunshineandsmilez).
We are linked to the following local Co-op stores…
- Co-op Food: 132 Cardigan Road, Headingley, Leeds LS6 1LU
- Co-op Food: Leeds University Union, Lower ground, 2 Lifton Place, Leeds LS2 9JZ
- Co-op Funeralcare: 32 North Lane, Headingley, Leeds LS6 3HE
How we’re going to be using this funding...
Only 5.1% of adults with a learning disability are in paid work in England. We would like this to change.
21 Co. offers paid work experience for 10 people with Down Syndrome at the moment, but we wish to create an employment pathway so we have a clear process of offering training and work experience. This would include building a portfolio of competencies and looking at things like creating a CV and practising interview skills. We will then be able to help people to move forward into other paid work opportunities.
In the long term we would like to extend this model of working across the whole of Sunshine & Smiles to make sure we can offer this opportunity to as many people with Down Syndrome in Leeds as possible.
