Following on from themes that came up via the consultation process we undertook last year, a team of parents, Joanna Rowlands, Katie Kelly and Steph Ward, have been working on setting up a youth club- type group within Sunshine & Smiles.
We would like to see friendships nurtured and blossom for the future and give the children a chance to meet up and gain some independence.
We are planning to arrange social outings, which will need to be supported by parents and carers initially, but where we can hopefully let friendships, confidence and independence grow.
We are offering the youth club to high school age children, 11 to 18 years.
For an initial trial, we have arranged an outing to Hollywood Bowl, Kirkstall at half term - Monday 13 February at 10.30am.
Sunshine & Smiles are funding the outing, and bookings can be made through the normal booking system where voluntary donations can also be made.
We would look to find different venues and activities, maybe to start with every couple of months, progressing to monthly if they are well attended.
If anyone has any suggestions for activities, please do get in touch and we will look into them.
Hollywood Bowl also have food available, so the option of staying for lunch afterwards is open to you to give more time to socialise.
