Our Speech and Language therapist, Caitlin, really enjoyed meeting many of our children and young people last term, along with their parents or carers. This has given her a good idea of everyone’s speech and language strengths and needs, and which children or young people would work well together in a small group.
Our Speech and Language small groups are made up of between 2 and 4 children or young people*. Each group occurs once a month for 45 minutes, and for school age children will be after school or at weekends.
We have been working hard to place children in groups where their social, developmental, communication and behavioural needs can best be met - this has meant that sometimes it has been difficult to find a time where all members of the group are available (based on surveys from July).
Because of this we will be contacting quite a few families this week asking if there is flexibility in their availability.
We totally understand that people have busy lives and some times and days really aren’t possible. However, we have tried really hard to find times that work for the majority of children in each group, and this may mean that some people have to decide whether to prioritise attending Speech and Language over other commitments once a month, or to not attend for now.
We hope you are as excited as we are that we are getting our new groups up and running, if you have any questions please email adminteam@sunshineandsmiles.org.uk.
*Except in a few exceptional circumstances where Caitlin feels the child will be better suited to a 1:1 session.
