SEND Reforms Update

With just 3 weeks to go until the Government’s SEND Reforms consultation closes, here’s a little reminder of what you can do to make sure that your voices are heard and your concerns are raised.

We will be holding a face-to-face meeting for Sunshine and Smiles families - date and time TBC.  The aim is to ensure parents and carers are aware of how the proposed reforms will potentially affect your child and that people feel equipped to respond to the consultation. Before the Easter holidays we held our first, online focus group with parents and carers to discuss concerns.  You can find a link to the meeting transcript in the Sunshine and Smiles - SEND Reform White Paper WhatsApp group.

IPSEA have created email templates available here to help you write to your local MP about why this matters to you, and Save Our Children’s Rights are organising national protests around the country, including in Leeds, on Saturday 9th May - which everyone is invited to attend.  Please see their social media pages for more details and you can register here to let them know you will be attending.

There is also a petition that Save Our Children’s Rights are backing, by 14 year old Tee-Jay, who has an EHCP.  You can sign the petition here and show the Government how much we oppose these reforms.  There is also a number of articles and information on the reform proposals, on the Special Needs Jungle website and you can of course submit any questions on our own SEND Reforms WhatsApp group.
