UPDATE:
We have permission to take a deputation to the full council meeting this Wednesday to share our concerns and ask the full council meeting to reverse this policy.
We will be meeting at the Civic Hall at Millennium Square at 11.30am to campaign outside before we go into the meeting at 12.30pm, and we should be finished by 2pm.
We would really appreciate it if anyone could come down and support us, either outside or to be in the public gallery when we read our deputation speech. More information can be found here.
On Tuesday 24th June, the Save Our School Transport campaign held a demonstration outside of the First Direct arena, where the SEND Next Choices event was being held.
We gave out nearly 500 leaflets, got 50 postcards signed to send to local councillors, and raised awareness with the general public, asking them to sign our petition and also with parents and carers who weren't aware of the changes.
Following a change in Leeds City Council’s policy, many young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities will no longer receive free transport to their place of learning after they turn 16 and move to Year 12, or post-16 education.
This will have a hugely detrimental effect on the families involved and will affect many of the families in our network in the years to come if the new policy remains in place.
Alongside other families who have young people with different needs, we have launched a campaign group - Save Our School Transport.
The campaign group has launched a petition to urge Leeds City Council to reverse its cuts to school transport for young people with SEND. You can sign it here.
Please share this petition with your friends and family.
