Thank you so much to the North Leeds Community Choir (NLCC) and everyone who took part in our signing choir at the weekend. It was a wonderful, sell-out community event, celebrating the 10th anniversary of NLCS. Altogether, the night raised a fantastic £1,428 for Sunshine and Smiles!
Alongside great performances by local bands Juke, Broken Pot and Brave Words Theatre, we got together a small choir of our own! We learnt 3 songs to sing and sign to, and our children and young people were definitely the stand out stars! It was such a special part of the night. We had the wonderful NLCS sing with us too and lots of audience participation. It was fantastic to see people learning the signs from us. Thank you to our wonderful Speech & Language Therapist, Ruth who showed the audience some signs and kept us in check! Thalia also did an amzing job as one of the hosts, introducing the various acts.
The NLCS then took to the stage with some amazing songs and solos. Thank you also to the audience who all got involved, donated and bought drinks and cakes from us (additional thanks to Claire for serving!). You have contributed to some much needed funds for Sunshine and Smiles, for our groups and activities and getting our new home in central Leeds ready for our families.
We all enjoyed singing and signing so much in fact, that a Sunshine and Smiles signing choir is something we’d really like to try and organise in the future - so watch this space and get involved!
