“My First 1000 Days” is a project focused on improving health and wellbeing for parents and children aged 0-2yrs in Leeds.
They are developing a community-based, group-centred model of care, sensitive to local needs.
This model involves parents meeting up during pregnancy and after the birth of their baby. In addition to receiving important health and wellbeing information and support, they share experiences, learn from, and empower each other.
My First 1000 Days want to make sure that their approach meets the needs of both parents who are disabled people and the parents of disabled children.
This is a really interesting project that Sunshine & Smiles have started to get involved in.
They are looking for parents and carers of children aged 5 - 11 years to take part in 2 focus groups on the 11th & 18th October from 11am to 3pm at Leeds Mencap Vinery Centre. You’ll get £100 shopping voucher for each group you attend!
The focus of the project is to create a community network/support for families for the first 1000 days (2 years) of their child's life; this would be a universal project but it's really important that experiences of families who have a child with additional needs are heard so this can be included in the project planning.
