Alison Hunter - mum of one of our Sunshine & Smilers, Eleanor, is running the London Marathon this coming Sunday to raise funds for Sunshine & Smiles.
Here’s her story:
“When I was 10 years old my mum introduced me and my sister to running. We joined City of Hull AC and were active members of the club, mum volunteering on the track and in the tuck shop!
We competed all over the country and the seed was sown.
Moving on a few years, I came to Leeds to start my nursing, I moved to Garforth and I joined Kippax Harriers in 1994.
I have loved my running journey and completed a few marathons and I have managed to secure a " Good for Age " place in the London Marathon for 2024. (I last ran London in 1998!)
I was able to tell mum I had secured a place for the London Marathon before she passed away in December 2023. Mum always supported Sunshine & Smiles and was very close to Eleanor, they had a special bond.
Sunshine & Smiles is a small charity that supports children with Down Syndrome and their families in many different ways. For Eleanor, it is the social group activities like singing, swimming, parties and being with friends that she loves the most.
I would be so grateful if you can sponsor me for the London Marathon it will be an emotional day running with mum and dad in my thoughts and to raise money for such a great Charity.
Thank you so much,
Alison and Eleanor xx”
We’d like to wish Alison lots of luck this Sunday, and you can sponsor her here.
