John and Mack have now reached the summit of Kilimanjaro! Their epic trek up Mount Kilimanjaro is to raise money for Sunshine & Smiles (and 5 other charities). You can support them here.
Here's what they have to say about their challenge:
'We are trekking Mount Kilimanjaro on 26th June 2022. The mountain is the only free-standing mountain in the world. It is an inactive volcano and has a height of 5895 metres above sea level. The route we chose is the Machame route known as the whiskey route. The company we are using is www.Lekenadventure.com
We are flying out on the 23rd to have a few days to visit parts of Tanzania to take in the sites and environment.
I am 56 and a Maintenance Assistant at the Leeds General Infirmary (NHS). I am a former 22 year serving Territorial Army soldier.
Mack is 27 and is a trainee Radiographer and part time delivery driver. He has a wealth of experience in mountain climbing as he does it as a hobby.
We intend to raise as much charity needed funds as possible to make a difference to each of the 6 organization we have chosen. We have never done anything like this before and we are both nervous and excited. We have self-financed this venture to ensure maximum money is distributed to each cause.'
