Down Syndrome Awareness month begins this week. It’s a month for celebrating individuality, focusing on what every person with Down syndrome deserves to be, what they aspire to and what they and their families are proud of.
We would love to celebrate the people, passions, achievements and individuality within our own Down syndrome community! If you are happy to, feel free to share a photo of your child and we will post them on our socials throughout October. We’d love something that shows “I’m proud of my child because….” or, for older children/young people: “I’m proud of myself because…” Please send your photo to: Nicola@sunshineandsmiles.org.uk or 07472 320247.
Down Syndrome UK is also raising awareness, creating space for fairness, equality, and respect, encouraging everyone to join them in embracing and celebrating differences in a positive and meaningful way. You can participate in the “Big PADS Push” - a family-friendly sponsored walk organised by Down Syndrome UK to raise awareness of Down syndrome and support new and expectant families. Whether you’re a family, individual, office at work or school, take part in a sponsored walk of just 2.1 miles in October. You can also find social media frames, various templates and information, as well as resources to share with your school on their website.
