On 5th November, the Government published the Draft Statutory Guidance for the Down Syndrome Act for public consultation — an important milestone on the journey to ensuring that people with Down syndrome receive the support, inclusion, and recognition they deserve.
The consultation is now open for 12 weeks and will close on 28 January 2026. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is inviting responses from:
- People with Down syndrome and their families or carers
- Professionals working in health, social care, education, or housing
- Organisations and advocates across the sector
This consultation is a vital opportunity for the community to help shape how the Act will be implemented. The NDSPG looks forward to working with the Down syndrome community throughout this process to ensure that the final guidance reflects lived experience, expert insight, and what truly matters to our families.
Over the coming days and weeks, the Down Syndrome Policy Group will be sharing more information on how you can get involved, including online sessions and resources to support your participation.
