The Down syndrome Act 2022 is due to be passed into law. The government is currently consulting to understand what should be covered in this law.
There will be a consultation event on 1st November in Leeds (11am-2pm, likely)
NOTE: We currently do not have any details of the location or definite times. We will share more information as we get it!
This consultation will be an opportunity for adults with Down syndrome (over 18) to share their thoughts about what should be included in the act.
Hopefully, reasonable travel expenses will be paid for (TBC) and participants can bring with them a support worker or advocate. If you do not have anyone available to accompany you on the day, we can try to arrange someone to be there with you.
The National Down syndrome Policy Group (NDSPG) have offered a good will involvement grant of £50 for the adults, if that will help them to be able to come but this must be specifically requested.
PLEASE LET US KNOW: if you would be able to attend on this date and if you’d require support from us to attend. Please do this by emailing Ailith: ailith@sunshineandsmiles.org.uk
We hope that there will be a further consultation event for the families and carers of younger people and children with Down syndrome in the near future, however we have not yet been advised of one.
