Our very own Ailith and daughter Thalia, featured in a BBC article on the issue of council-funded school transport for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The article, as well as a piece on the 6 O’Clock News, focussed on data shared about the cost to local councils of providing transport to school for 470,000 under 16 and 50,000 over 16 year olds and reported on the difficulties Ailith’s family will face if this transport is not provided in the future.
Leeds City Council announced earlier this year that Send students aged over 16 will no longer be provided with council-funded school transport in order to save the local authority £800,000.
Sunshine and Smiles is also part of the wider “Save our School Transport” campaign on this issue.
