Makaton Level 1 for Sunshine & Smiles Families

NHS Speech and Language Therapist Ruth Mercer is running Makaton Level 1 training for Sunshine & Smiles on 21st January in the Beckett Room of Headingley Enterprise & Arts Centre (HEART)*.  This is suitable for those with no experience of Makaton signing or those with some knowledge or training (such as Makaton baby sign). It is open to family members and professionals (such as teaching assistant or support workers).

The last hour of the day (15:15-16:30) will be opened up to anyone who would like a Makaton refresher, as well as siblings who are interested in learning some Makaton (age 8+). If you would like to just attend the last hour, please book via the same link and select the refresher on the drop down during booking. 

Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. Many people with Down Syndrome find Makaton a very useful communcation aid.

*There are limited accessible spaces in the car park at HEART but it is also a very tight entrance to the car park. There is on street parking and also a cheap public car park by Headingley Taps. We would advise people to plan not to park actually at the venue and leave a little time to park nearby and walk if driving in.
